Since 1.7um Fortis columns are the same surface area as their 3um and 5um counterparts, several advantages occur over lower surface area materials:
- Loading of analyte concentration is not compromised
- You can remove backpressure from the system by reducing column length, whilst still maintaining retention
- You can increase resolution.
The choice is then open to use the high retention as a resolution benefit or to reduce the column length and therefore system backpressure :
